In Our Community

Channeling Financial Equity into Social Equity

The business world is a practical, goal-oriented and driven one which focuses upon important short-term objectives such as earnings, expense control, growth, total assets, and market-share. Each of these is of vital significance not only to the owners of the business but to its employees, their families, consumers and ultimately to the greater community. The more successful and efficient the business, the more everyone participates in its prosperity and benefits.

As a business HarborOne Credit Union shares these objectives. Facing intense competition in many cases from much larger institutions for your deposits and loans, HarborOne must be a highly efficient organization in order to succeed. Those who use our services know of our intense dedication and commitment and are aware of our efforts to be the very best financial institution in the region. It is an ambitious goal, but one we strive for daily.

There is a synergy among us where the whole can become greater than the sum of its parts. When we succeed, everyone does. When you avail yourselves of our financial services, we gain, but so do you and your neighbors as we convert our financial capital into social capital.

At one time or another some of us were Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, young YMCA or Boys and Girls Club members, players on youth sporting teams, youthful musicians or artists. Later in life some of us may have faced tragedy: personal illness or that of a family member, the loss of a job, financial uncertainty. As we grow older we face the ultimate challenges: the loss of health, the passing of a loved one, our own mortality.

All of these should not and cannot be faced alone. That is where communities come in. The root of the word communities is quot;common" - what is shared or borne together, how we help and aid each other in order to enjoy life, to endure, survive and prosper.

And local non-profits are established to focus on meeting those needs. Their structure provides organization and strength to meet the varied needs of individuals. We know them well. In addition to those named earlier, there are our schools, our social clubs, our orchestras, our art associations, our counseling agencies, our health care providers and many, many more.

Most of these organizations need assistance from individuals and businesses. That assistance comes in two forms. The first is where talented individuals volunteer their professional services; the second is where individuals and businesses contribute funds to help non-profits overcome operating deficits.

HarborOne itself is a product of the community, originally founded to serve the financial needs of employees living and working in the area. In its formative years, it was staffed by volunteers. Even today, its Board of Directors is comprised of highly dedicated volunteers.

Accordingly, HarborOne, while constantly striving to grow its business every day, is well aware of the need to strengthen and reinforce those ties that unite our communities and is committed to doing what it can to help. The stronger our communities become, the stronger we all are.

If you are a HarborOne customer, I thank you for your business and your loyalty. If you are not a customer, I encourage you to visit one of our offices and discuss your financial needs with any of our professional, friendly employees. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed in both the short run and the long run.

Sincerely,

James W. Blake
